FAQ
Questions founders and CFOs ask us
What is SR&ED?
The Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) program is Canada's largest R&D tax incentive. Companies that work to resolve technological uncertainty can claim investment tax credits on eligible salaries, materials, contractors and, since 2025, capital spending. Canadian-controlled private corporations can get a 35% refundable credit on up to $6M of eligible spending a year.
How is a flat fee different from contingency?
Most SR&ED firms charge a percentage of your refund, so the fee grows with your claim even when the work doesn't. We agree a flat fee before we start, based on the scope of the claim. You know the cost up front, and the size of the refund never changes what you pay us.
Do you file the claim for us?
We prepare everything: the T661 project descriptions, the expenditure schedules and, if you apply, the T1322 pre-claim approval application. Your company reviews and signs, and the claim is filed with your T2 return (usually by your accountant). We can work directly with your accountant.
What if CRA reviews our claim?
CRA review support is part of every claim we prepare. We help you respond to information requests, prepare your team for the technical and financial review meetings, and explain the reasoning behind each project.
Is ClearSRED part of the CRA?
No. ClearSRED is an independent firm. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by the Canada Revenue Agency.
